About Us

Last updated:

Stitchy Home makes one kind of thing: everyday clothes with something personal stitched into them. A sweatshirt with a grandmother’s name and the names of everyone who calls her that. A hoodie with a dog’s face and the dog’s name underneath. A cap with three initials on the front panel. Every piece is embroidered to order for one person or one household, with thread you choose, in the place you choose, after you have seen and approved a stitch proof. This page explains what we make, how we make it, what we promise and what we will not do.

Why stitched, and not printed

A printed name sits on top of the fabric. An embroidered name goes through it. Thread is pulled through the garment and locked against a backing on the inside, so the design becomes part of the sweatshirt rather than a layer on it. That is why embroidery has its quiet, slightly raised texture, why it catches the light the way a printed design does not, and why it keeps its shape after the wash cycles a favourite hoodie goes through. It is also why we chose the name Stitchy Home: the stitch is the whole point, and the home is where the piece ends up, worn on a Sunday morning, packed for a trip, passed down to a younger sibling.

Embroidery has limits too, and we would rather tell you about them than hide them. Very small text, fine gradients and tiny details of a photo cannot be reproduced exactly in thread. A pet portrait in thread is a drawing made of stitches, not a photograph. Part of our job is to simplify your design into something that stitches cleanly, and the proof shows you exactly how we have done it before anything is made.

What we make

The garments

We work with three kinds of blank. Sweatshirts are crewnecks in a relaxed unisex cut, the most forgiving canvas for a centre-chest roster or a portrait. Hoodies come as pullovers, with an uninterrupted front for larger designs, and as zip hoodies, where a left-chest name or a back design works best. Caps include structured baseball caps, soft dad caps and snapbacks, each one size with an adjustable back. Apparel runs from S to 5XL. Garment colours and the current size range are listed on each product page; our Size Guide explains how to choose between two sizes.

The personalisation

Our range is organised around five kinds of personal design, each with its own category:

  • Name & Initials: a first name, a nickname, a monogram, a short word.
  • Family & Couples: matching pieces, family rosters, Mama and Dad pieces, anniversary dates.
  • Pet Portraits: a dog, cat, rabbit or horse drawn in thread from your photo, with the name below.
  • Photo Portraits: couples, grandparents, a new baby, redrawn as an outline or a filled portrait.
  • Occasion Gifts: birthdays, anniversaries, new babies, graduations, thank-yous and the winter holidays.

The thread

We offer twenty thread colours, from black, white and navy to deep gold, prussian blue, emerald green and lilac. The same twenty are available on every garment, which matters more than it sounds: a family set ordered in one go, or a cap added to a sweatshirt order months later, will match. The homepage shows the full set of thread colours, and each product page lets you pick one per design.

How a piece is made

  1. You choose. On the product page you pick the garment, colour and size, then type the text or upload the photo, and choose the thread colour, font and placement.
  2. We draw the stitch file. Your design is turned into an embroidery file: every letter and every line of a portrait is translated into stitch types, directions and densities that suit the fabric. A name on fleece needs different settings from a name on a cap’s stiff front panel.
  3. You see a proof. We email you a preview of the design on your garment. You check spelling, size, position and colour, and ask for any change you want. Nothing is stitched until you approve.
  4. We stitch and check. The garment goes into the hoop, the design is stitched, the backing is trimmed, and the finished piece is checked against your approved proof.
  5. We pack and ship. Within 1-3 business days of your approval the parcel leaves us, free and tracked, with no prices inside if it is a gift.

Choosing a design for someone else

The hardest part of a personalised gift is often deciding what to stitch. A few patterns from the questions we answer every week:

  • For a quiet person, a small first name or initials on the left chest in a thread one shade darker than the garment. It reads up close and stays understated across a room.
  • For a grandparent, the title they are called by (“Grandma”, “Papa”, “Nonna”) with the grandchildren’s first names in a column below. Five or six names fit comfortably on a sweatshirt front.
  • For a couple, two pieces with each other’s names, or the same date on both sleeves. Matching thread and font matter more than matching garments.
  • For a pet owner, a portrait of the pet’s head with its name underneath, from a photo taken in daylight at the pet’s eye level.
  • For a new family, Mama and Dad pieces with the baby’s name and birth date, or a small cap for each parent.

If you are torn between two ideas, describe both in an email and we will tell you which one stitches more cleanly on the garment you have in mind.

How we check a finished piece

Before a piece is packed, it is compared with the proof you approved. We check that every letter and number is present and in the right order, that the thread colour is the one you chose, that the design sits where the proof shows it, that the stitching is dense and even with no loose ends on the front, that the backing has been trimmed neatly on the inside, and that the garment itself has no marks or flaws. A piece that fails any of these checks is re-stitched rather than sent. If something still slips through, our refund policy treats it as our mistake and fixes it free.

Photos, names and privacy

Our orders often contain things you would not share with a stranger: children’s names, birth dates, a photo of a parent who has died. Photos are used only to prepare your design and proof, are seen only by the people making your order, and are deleted after the return period unless you ask us to keep the design for a future re-order. We never publish a customer’s piece without asking first. The full details are in our Privacy Policy.

Why we take personalised pieces back

Most shops that sell personalised items say “no returns on personalised orders”. We understand why: a sweatshirt with someone else’s name on it is hard to sell to anyone else. We still take them back, for 60 days, for any reason, because a gift that does not fit or a portrait that does not feel right should not be a dead end for you. Returned personalised pieces are recycled or donated rather than resold. The proof step is what makes this sustainable for us: when you have seen and approved exactly what will be stitched, very few pieces come back.

What we will not do

  • We will not invent reviews, counters, “only 2 left” messages or fake sale prices. If a product page shows a price, that is the price.
  • We will not show payment logos for options that are not working at checkout.
  • We will not stitch other companies’ logos, characters or slogans; our Intellectual Property Policy explains why and what we offer instead.
  • We will not use your photos, names or designs in our marketing without asking you first.
  • We will not promise a delivery date we cannot see on the calendar. If your date is tight, we say so before you pay.

Where we are

Stitchy Home is a single online store at stitchyhome.com. Our business address is 4810 W Gary Way, Laveen AZ 85339, United States, and orders ship from the USA. We sell only through this website; if you see Stitchy Home designs offered elsewhere, they are not from us, and we would be grateful if you told us. We do not have a shop counter or a phone line. Email is how we talk with customers, because it gives you a written record of every spelling, date and promise.

Who our pieces are for

Most of our orders are gifts: a partner’s anniversary, a parent’s first year with a new baby, a grandparent who now has a roster of names to wear, a friend whose dog has been part of the family for twelve years. Many are for the person ordering, too: a cap with your own initials, a hoodie with your cat’s face because you wanted one. What they share is that the person who receives the piece is the only person it was made for. We keep that in mind with every proof we prepare.

Looking after what we stitch

An embroidered piece lasts for years when it is washed inside out, in cold water, on a gentle cycle, without bleach or fabric softener, and dried flat or on low heat. Never iron directly over the stitching; press from the reverse with a cloth between. Caps should be spot-cleaned rather than machine-washed, so the front panel keeps its shape. If something goes wrong within 60 days of delivery despite normal care, write to us and we will look at the photos with you.
